Mini Bio

(For the Record: I'm DreamingOctober on LJ.)

I'm a graduate student studying digital media applications while also completing a second undergraduate degree in physics with tentative plans to pursue a PhD in astrophysics (because I'm insane and because Rodney McKay and Samantha Carter inspired me to do it. Which... yes... insane. Shut up.) I live in Houston, Texas, with my husband, our three cats, my sister, and her dog. Between the seven of us, we watch copious amounts of television and read stacks and stacks of books every year.

Last year, while watching Stargate Atlantis for the first time (oh god why did it take me so long why why why), I discovered fandom, fan fiction, and all the delicious goodness that belongs to these things. I'm in love with fandom, utterly entranced by it, and I'm planning on writing at least one serious graduate paper about it.

So, that's me. If you want to know anything else, just ask! I also have a LiveJournal. Note: Entries on the LJ that were written pre-2009 have been locked away because they are no longer reflective of me as a person - it's amazing how just a few years can change a person, isn't it?

For the record: I am fiercely pro-choice. I am fiercely pro-LGBT rights. I am fiercely pro-women's rights. I am deeply committed to being aware of and fighting against racism and other forms of institutional oppression. I believe in freedom of speech. I am socially liberal. I tend to be fiscally conservative, but I believe it is the responsibility of those who have to choose to help those who have not. I believe it is my responsibility to help heal the world in any way I can, to contribute to my community. I believe that language is important, and that its misuse can have very negative consequences. I have strong opinions, and I'm not afraid to voice them. Make your decisions accordingly.
